Event feed map view: FAQs

Frequently asked questions about the map view of the event feed

Updated over 2 weeks ago

We added a map view to our event feed to help supporters find events near them and show organizations a visual depiction of the momentum behind their movements!

How do I see a map view of all events for an organization?

You can navigate to the map from the event feed by selecting the map icon.

Or you can navigate to the map directly by going to mobilize.us/yourslug/map/.

How do I filter the event search in map view?

You can turn any search or feed into a map. Start by searching for whatever you'd like in the UI:

  • Tags (for example: "Weekend of Action" or "Get Out The Vote")

  • Text in the title or description (for example: "Juneteenth")

  • Event Type (for example: "Phonebank")

  • Date or Date range (for example: "July 4th")

  • Accessibility features (for example: "ASL interpretation")

  • Location (for example: only events in Texas)

  • Campaign or Organization (only events you are promoting that are organized by a specific candidate or nonprofit, etc...)

In addition to the visible search fields, you can also filter the feed for a specific event campaign by navigating to Host an event, selecting the event campaign you're interested in, then selecting "See Examples."

After you've applied your search, select the map icon to go to the map version.

How do I share a map with supporters?

Once you have the map you want to share, just copy and paste the url and send to your list. The URL will include all the search parameters you selected.

What happens for events that don't have publicly visible locations?

  • Private and hidden events - If an event's visibility is Private or if a promoted event is hidden from your feed, it won't appear on the map.

  • Public events with hidden locations - If an event has a private address but is visible in your feed, it won't appear on the map.

  • Virtual events without a location - If the hosting organization has a location set, then the event will appear at the hosting organization's location on the map. If not, the event won't appear on the map.

How many events can the map show?

Currently the map can show up to 1,000 events at once. If your feed or search has more than 1,000 events, then it will show the 1,000 closest events to you (or to the specified location if you selected one). When you move the map, it will show the 1,000 closest to the center. The events displayed adjust based on your zoom level, so you’ll see the most relevant results wherever you're looking.

What happens when multiple events are at the same location?

When there are multiple events at the same location, the map will show a count. Once you select it, the map will show a link to see a list of the events.

Can I see which signups came from the map vs the feed?

We don't currently surface any tracking to distinguish between the two. But if you'd like to use utm parameters you can add them to the link you share to understand how many signups came from a specific link.

How do I remove my event from the map?

You can remove your event from the map and feed by making the event's visibility Private or for a promoted event, hiding it from your feed (from your Events tab, navigate to the Actions column for the selected event and select "Hide from feed").

When sharing a link to the map, can I decide where it centers and how far it zooms in?

Yes, you can center the map and choose the amount of zoom by including the latitude, longitude, and zoom parameters in the url.

If you don't include these parameters then it will center on where the viewer of the map is and zoom out to the whole US.

To include these parameters:
a) Go to the map

b) Zoom in and navigate to where you want

c) Tap Back to list

d) Tap Map

e) Share the url in the address bar.
